Because Volos is a modern 19th century coastal town in Central Greece founded in the remains of Jason’s birthplace, Iolcus. It is 320 km (about 4h) away from Athens and 200 km (about 2,5h) away from Thessaloniki.
How to get here? You can get here by airplane (there is the Volos
airport Nea Aghialos), by train, by bus or by ship. Volos is a popular port of
call for cruise ships all year round. Having Volos as your starting point you
can travel to Central Greece, to the unique Unesco monument Meteora and the
famous Mamma Mia! Islands Skiathos and
Skopelos.
Feel like the heroes of the Argonautic experience, visit the neolithic settlements of Seklo and Dimini and don't forget to drink tsipouro, our local drink, whenever the opportunity arises!
